As a World of Hyatt member, you earn up to 5 Base Points for every eligible $1 spent on stays, including dining, spa, and other services at participating hotel locations.

3. Stay at Mr. & Mrs. Smith Hotels

Earn up to 5 Base Points per $1 spent plus elite Bonus Points at participating Mr. & Mrs. Smith hotels. You must book through Hyatt to earn points.

Smart travelers will compare booking these properties directly or through other channels to review potentially lower rates versus their points earnings for booking through Hyatt.

4. Earn Elite Status

There are 4 elite tiers in the World of Hyatt program: Globalist, Explorist, Discoverist, and Member.

Upon enrolling, you will be a Member. To reach the succeeding status tiers, you must meet qualifying night or Base Point thresholds.

Accrue 10 eligible nights or 25,000 Base Points per calendar year to earn Discoverist status. With this status, you will earn 10% more Bonus Points on eligible spending.

Explorist requires 30 qualifying nights or 50,000 Base Points per calendar year. In return, you will earn 20% more Bonus Points on eligible spend.

The top tier of status with World of Hyatt is Globalist. To reach this tier, you must reach 60 qualifying nights or 100,000 Base Points per calendar year. As a Globalist, you will earn 30% Bonus Points on eligible spend.

World of Hyatt also provides a comprehensive table of benefits by status tier.

Base Points and Bonus Points

For reference, World of Hyatt members earn Bonus Points and Base Points:

  • Base Points: You earn Base Points when paying eligible charges for hotel stays as well as Hyatt dining, spa, and other experiences. Base Points are the only type of points to count toward your tier status and can also be redeemed for rewards in the World of Hyatt program.
  • Bonus Points: Bonus reward points are any points not labeled as Base Points. For example, elite status percentage bonuses, Planner Reward bonuses, and promotional offers are all Bonus Points. While you can redeem Bonus Points for rewards in the World of Hyatt program just like Base Points, you cannot count them toward elite status.

Qualifying Nights

Anytime you stay the night at a Hyatt property and pay an eligible rate, you earn a tier-qualifying night. You must provide your World of Hyatt membership number when making a reservation.

Earn Points With Flexible Credit Cards

While using a Hyatt-branded credit card might seem like the fastest way to earn World of Hyatt points, make sure you also consider points earned from Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards.

5. Chase Ultimate Rewards

There are major advantages to collecting flexible points like Chase’s Ultimate Rewards points.

This is because you can transfer them to several different airline and hotel partners, making them extremely valuable (rather than collecting just 1 type of point, e.g. World of Hyatt points).

You can transfer Chase points to Hyatt, and they’re very easy to earn!

6. Bilt Rewards

Bilt Rewards is a niche program aimed at those who pay monthly rent. You can earn Bilt Rewards points and transfer them to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio with a 2,000-point minimum. While the Bilt World Elite Mastercard® Credit Card allows you to earn Bilt Rewards points on rent, it doesn’t come with a welcome bonus and it has a minimum transaction requirement, so it won’t be for everyone.

Travel for World of Hyatt Points

Credit cards are probably the easiest and quickest way to earn World of Hyatt points, but you can also earn them when traveling. If you so choose, you can also earn airline miles for your Hyatt stays.

7. American Airlines AAdvantage – World of Hyatt Partnership

Hyatt Discoverist and above status members can earn 1 point per $1 spent at American Airlines with the AAdvantage – World of Hyatt partnership (get more information about linking your Hyatt and American accounts here).

Hot Tip: Sometimes, there are promotions where you can earn AAdvantage miles for ordinary Hyatt spending, too! Check back periodically to stay up to date.

8. Book a Rental Car With Avis

When you book an Avis rental car, not only will you receive up to 25% off base rates, but you will also get 500 World of Hyatt Bonus Points.

You don’t need to be staying at a Hyatt to qualify. Simply book your reservations on Avis’s website using Worldwide Discount number K817700.

Special Programs

Finally, there are a few other ways to boost your World of Hyatt points balance.

9. Transfer Points to Family and Friends

Help out friends and family members who need more World of Hyatt points by sharing yours! You can transfer your World of Hyatt points into awards good for a free night or an upgrade.

Your points make a great gift or they can make it easier to plan group vacations!

Points may be transferred or received once per 30 days by filling out the Point Combining Request Form.

10. Plan Meetings and Events

The World of Hyatt also rewards meeting planners who hold meetings at Hyatt. This makes holding your meetings and events at Hyatt properties even more appealing!

Earn 1 point per $1 spent, up to 50,000 Bonus Points per event! Meeting planners can also earn elite status with World of Hyatt by holding events at Hyatt properties.

You can split these reward points between up to 3 parties (a combination of individuals or companies).

11. FIND Experiences

FIND is Hyatt’s experience arm, which enables you to book over 200 experiences in 50+ destinations around the world.

Some of these activities include practicing yoga in the Redwoods, hiking with a wolf in Southern California, private Muay Thai classes, and culinary classes with celebrity chefs.

You’ll earn 10 Base Points per $1 for experiences in the U.S. and Mexico only.

12. Dine at or Enjoy Spa Treatments at World of Hyatt Properties

Did you know that you can earn World of Hyatt points at participating Hyatt properties, even if you’re not staying there?

Whether you’re dining at the hotel restaurant or grabbing a quick spa treatment, you can rack up lots of World of Hyatt points quickly.

Just quote the outlet with your World of Hyatt number, and you’ll be all set to earn 5 points per dollar spent. You’ll also get elite status bonus points on these purchases.

Other Methods

13. Buy World of Hyatt Points

There are occasions when you want to make an award redemption, but you’re just short of some points to pull it off.

This is really the only time that you’ll want to buy points, as we don’t recommend stockpiling a specific airline or hotel point as they’re very prone to devaluation.

If you need more World of Hyatt points, you can buy them. You can purchase up to 55,000 points per calendar year in 1,000-point increments at a rate of 2.4 cents per point.

Sometimes, you might encounter points sales where you can get a 30% bonus, making it cost 1.85 cents per point to top off your World of Hyatt balance!

Final Thoughts

The process of earning points with World of Hyatt is pretty straightforward. Hopefully, we’ve shown you some of the best strategies for earning as many points as possible.

About Spencer Howard

Always a fan of flying, it was only natural that Spencer was drawn to finding a way to improve the travel experience.

Like many, he started this journey searching for cheap flights to take him around the world. This was fun for a while, but Spencer was intrigued by the idea of flying in business and first class!

Throwing himself into what became an extensive research project, Spencer spent 3-4 hours per night learning everything he could about frequent flyer miles over the course of several months (he thinks this is normal). He runs Straight to the Points, an award-seat alert platform.
