Don’t Get If
Welcome Offer and Earning Categories
With the current welcome bonus offer, you can: Earn a $300 Statement Credit after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That’s money for your favorite Disney merchandise!
Then, earn 2% in Disney Rewards Dollars on purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney locations. Plus, earn 1% in Disney Rewards Dollars for all of your other card purchases.
Disney Premier Card Perks
The Disney Premier card also comes with a bunch of perks, like 10% off Disney Store and shopDisney.com purchases.
But that’s not all. Get 15% off select guided tours and pose for special photos at private Cardmember locations at Disneyland® and Walt Disney World® Resorts with complimentary downloads of your photos, too.
Bottom Line: Get perks like discounts on merchandise along with special photo opportunities when you have the Disney Premier card.
0% APR Vacation Package Benefit
A unique feature of the Disney Premier card is 0% promo APR for 6 months on select Disney vacation packages from the date of purchase, after that a variable APR of 19.24% - 28.24%. That means you have half the year to pay off your trip without accumulating interest when you book with the card.
This special financing offer makes it a little easier to pay for your memorable Disney vacation.
Drawbacks of the Card
One drawback of the card is the annual fee of $49. Because it’s hard to put a dollar amount on benefits like special photoshoots, the card may not be the first choice for those who aren’t frequent Disney park attendees.
Another option is the Disney® Visa® Card, which has similar benefits without an annual fee. There are 2 key differences with this card.
First, you get a flat 1% rewards rate rather than extra Disney Rewards Dollars for purchases at grocery stores, restaurants, and gas stations. Second, the welcome offer is typically less.
If you aren’t sure whether you will take full advantage of the Disney Rewards Dollars, you may find the Disney Premier card to be a good supplemental card to have in your wallet.
For instance, you could use it for spending in the categories that get you 2% in Disney Rewards Dollars, and then sign up for another card to get additional benefits.
As an example, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card earns a flat 2x per dollar on all purchases.
Bottom Line: In some cases, the Disney Premier card may be a good second card. You can accumulate Disney rewards for some purchases and use another card for your other spending.
Best Way To Redeem Disney Rewards Dollars
You only have 2 main options for redeeming points with the card: Disney Rewards Dollars or statement credit for airline tickets.
Disney Rewards Dollars
One Disney Rewards Dollar is equal to a $1 value when redeeming toward Disney products and offerings. For instance, you could redeem 99 Disney Rewards Dollars for a 1-day child theme park ticket that regularly costs $99.
Before you can redeem your Disney Rewards Dollars, you’ll need to load them onto a Disney Rewards Redemption Card. It holds your Dollars until you’re ready to spend them.
Airline Statement Credit
Using the airline ticket benefit allows you to get value from the Disney Premier card without being tied down to Disney. (Then again, if you aren’t a Disney fan, you probably wouldn’t have the card in the first place!).
Redeeming for airline miles is pretty simple. Just purchase airline tickets with the card on any airline to any destination, and pay yourself back with a credit on your monthly statement.
Each Disney Rewards Dollar can be redeemed for $1 credit on your monthly statement.
The card makes the process as easy as possible by allowing you to book your airline ticket through a travel website, airline, or travel agent. There are no black-out dates to worry about either.
You can redeem rewards in increments of $50 up to the price of the ticket. That means you need at least 50 Disney Rewards Dollars in your account to get started.
However, it also means that even if you don’t have enough rewards to cover the whole ticket, you can use what you have to lower the out-of-pocket cost.
Be aware that it takes 1-2 billing cycles for the credit to appear. For that reason, the card does recommend that you pay the full amount of the ticket when it appears on your bill to avoid finance charges.
You have 60 days from your airline ticket purchase to redeem your rewards for the credit on your statement. Once you request to redeem statement credit, it takes 5-7 days to post.
Best Way To Maximize Disney Rewards Dollars
Because you earn Disney Reward Dollars for your spending, the Disney Premier card is primarily a cash-back card. Therefore, there are only so many ways you can maximize your rewards.
Clearly, the best plan of attack is to use the card as much as possible for 2% cash-back spending. You may want to purchase items you don’t normally buy at these places to maximize cash-back.
But don’t make extra purchases just to spend money! After all, you still earn 1% for all of your other purchases, which is a small margin of difference.
